Story of Qi Xi Festival / Double Seventh Festival (Chinese Valentine's Day)

Qi Xi Festival or we called it Double Seventh Festival is fall in lunar July seventh of every year, it's a Chinese Valentine's Day that has the similar meaning as the 14 Feb Western Valentine's Day. The story of Qi Xi Festival is about the romantic legend of Niu Lang and Zhi Nu. They are both immortal in the heaven, and Niu Lang is a cowboy and Zhi Nu is a sewing girl. They are fell in love and very love each other, they tend to meet and together all the time, this causes them neglect of their work responsibility.

One day, the Jade Emperor knows that they are not doing their jobs well and feeling angry. The Jade Emperor decided to punish them, and dictate them to be separated and limit them could only meet on lunar July seventh. Once the news spread among people, they do sympathize with the love of Niu Lang and Zhi Nu, and every lunar July seventh, people will look up the sky and treat the two stars as Niu Lang and Zhi Nu, to see which two stars are closing together as Niu Lang promised to meet Zhi Nu every year on this day. This festival reminds couple to cherish the love and time they enjoy together.
